High power absorbers are for situations where the radiated energy is too much for normal high density homogeneous absorbers, the point at which normal absorbers are limited to is 200v/m.
Power handling absorbers have a much reduced mass so that there is less density to hold the heat.
The materials are air permeable so that air cooling can be facilitated.
To dissipate the heat air is normally blown through the absorbers. In some cases the air is chilled. There can be mass air movement through the absorbers or point cooling with compressed air pipes.

Global EMC have two products, one is reticulated pyramidal and one is phenolic honeycomb.
The reticulated foam structure is rated at 3Kw/m2 but it has less capability in static air and more power handling capability with blow air through and even better capability if the air is chilled.
The phenolic honeycomb has better power handling capability compared to reticulated foam and is rated at 15Kw/m2 again the type of cooling system has an effect on power handling capability.
