Irradiated electromagnetic energy can be absorbed in two ways

Progressive impedance - this is where the absorber strives to mimic free space by not allowing the wave to be reflected.
The various methods of absorber construction are all forms of 'resistive' structures.
Generally this type of absorber works better at higher frequencies where the wavelength is shorter.

Magnetic permeability -
This is where the structure (normally ferrite tile) absorbs the energy via the magnetic rotation of cells within the ferrite structure itself.
Ferrite tiles work better at lower frequencies where there is greater magnetic content to the wave.

The absorbers can be defined into three main groups:
Ferrite Tile, Resistive Foam Absorbers, ResistiveRubber Absorbers

FERRITE TILES

Global EMC have a range high quality 100mm x 100mm ferrite tiles (with and without centre fixing holes).

The thickness options are 6.0mm and 6.7mm.
Typical 'normal incidence' performance is -17dB@30Mhz,
-35dB@150MHz and -13dB@1GHz.

This ferrite tile system is used in compact EMC test chambers and EMC compliant test chambers.
Global EMC can also provide fixing/installation kits with instructions or can fully install.

SL Absorber system

Pyramidal absorbers – these broadband absorbers are ideal for anechoic chambers and other indoor broadband applications (50mm to 1m deep)
Typical usage of this product would be in antenna test chambers, microwave chambers or other applications where -50dB@10x wavelength is needed.

' WEDGE’ Absorber system

Pyramid ‘Wedge’ absorbers (for compact EMC chambers)
These wedge absorbers are circa 20% more effective than full peak absorbers at lower frequencies but are limited to -40dB in high microwave uses (available in 300mm, 400mm 500mm and 700mm deep).

The ‘Wedge’ system is designed for compact chambers and the ‘Wedge 400’ is ideal for MIL STD 462E applications.

BLOCK Absorber system

Block Absorber (single homogeneous doping) Available in 50mm, 75mm and 100mm deep blocks.
Typical usage: corners of anechoic chambers, general inhibiting of resonances in any faraday cage.
Can be cut into strips/shapes for various uses.

SLH Absorber system

Hollow pyramid absorbers (for large anechoic chambers) –
This unique 3 layer (resistive film) absorber system gives excellent low and high frequency absorber. Large examples of this product can give
>-20dB@30MHz and -50dB@20GHz+ (sizes: 1.3m, 1.6m, 2.0m and 2.4m deep)

 

SLX Absorber system

Microwave Hyper-absorbers (-60dB signal return loss @10x wavelength) –
Specifically made for extreme levels of microwave ‘return loss’ performance.
Solid versions in 600mm and 900mm options
Hollow versions in 1m, 1.3m and 1.6m options
Typical usage: end walls and ‘angle of incidence’ areas of microwave chambers


MLF Absorber system

Multi layer flat laminate – (25mm, 50mm and 100mm thick)
The layers are carbon dope graded so as to inhibit reflections as a step function.
Better broadband performance than the ‘SLF’ single layer system but higher cost.
Applications: inhibiting reflections on flat and curved surfaces, the 100mm thick can be used in the centre of shielded chambers to dampen mid/high frequency reflections. Contact Global EMC for cutting/forming to finished product.

SLF Absorber system

Single layer flat foam absorber:
      i) To reduce the resonances inside any product/cavity
      ii) To negate RF leakage from holes or slots
      iii) To inhibit re-radiation of conductive objects
      iv) To absorb Radar energies (specify internal or outside use)
Available in thicknesses of 3mm, 6mm, 9mm 13mm and 18mm
NOTE: The carbon doping can be specially formulated (tuned) to give optimum performance at any microwave frequency.

LBS Absorber system

‘Low back scatter’ pyramid absorbers (for ‘Antenna Range’ and ‘Radar

      ii) 8 sided pyramid (LBSO system)

RUBBER-CARBON ABSORBERS (for outside use)

RC Absorber system

Rubber cone absorbers see data sheet– Broadband microwave applications, will give -17 to -25dB ‘return loss’ within the nominated cone depth v frequency.
The thickness available is:
      6mm (15-35GHz)
      10mm (10-35GHz)
      16mm (6-35GHz)
      25mm (4-35GHz)
Available in 200mm x 200mm flexible sheets.

SLR Absorber system

Single layer (tuned) flat RADAR absorbers – Will give circa -18dB of ‘normal incidence’ return loss within +/-5% of the nominated frequencies:
      1.0mm thick – 18GHz (>-10dB@13-21GHz)
      1.2mm thick – 15GHz (>-10dB@12.5-17.5GHz)
      1.7mm thick – 10GHz (>-10dB@8-12GHz)
      1.8mm thick – 9.4GHz (>-10dB@7.5-11.5GHz)
      2.8mm thick – 5.5GHz (>-10dB@4.5-6.5GHz)
      3.6mm thick – 3GHz (>-10dB@2.5-3.5GHz)
      5mm thick – 2GHz (>-10dB@1.5-2.5GHz)

Thin layer variants (SLRT Type)

      1.5mm thick -15dB@5.5GHz (>-10dB@4-7GHz)

MR Absorber system

This system is available in rod, bar and sheet form.
The performance is relative to the density of the absorbing structure:
      2.8g/cubic cm will give -18dB@10GHz
      3.2g/cubic cm will give -25dB@10GHz
      3.7g/cubic cm will give -35dB@10GHz
      4.3g/cubic cm will give -48dB@10GHz
